This empowerED e-learning course is designed for Human Resource Directors, Small Business Owners, and Supervisors to enhance their understanding of accessibility and disability in the workplace. This comprehensive course uses an intersectional lens of gender identity inclusion and accessibility. Participants will learn to use decision-making tools to determine when it is appropriate to inquire about disabilities, gain insights into inclusive language and hiring practices, and prioritize people-first language in communications.

Duration: 75 Minutes

Level: Progress

Certificate: Completion Certification upon Quiz Completion with 80% pass

By the end of this 75 minute course, learners will be equipped to create more accessible, equitable, and inclusive work environments, fostering respect and support for individuals living with disabilities. This ‘Progress’ level course delves into accessibility, examining it through the lenses of disability and gender identity in the workplace.

Prerequisite: BB4I #1: Transgender Equity and Inclusion at Work is recommended for those beginning their learning journey around gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.

  • Rachel Mannet (They/She), SGF Facilitator and Accessibility Advisor. Rachele is a queer, Jewish, disabled, sexuality educator. Their workshops and classes focus on healthcare and disability. They are a lecturer at Dalhousie University. They also serve as the education coordinator for Venus Envy. It is an education-based sex shop and bookstore located in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Nova Scotia.

How long are courses?

  • Micro courses range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes in length
