This 20-minute Micro Inclusion Course delves into accessibility, examining it through the lenses of disability and identity in the workplace.

The course aims to enhance participants’ awareness of unconscious biases and their effects on language and interactions with individuals living with disabilities.

By the end of this Micro participants will be able to:

  1. Utilize decision-making tools and the information provided to gain a clearer understanding of when it is appropriate to inquire about disabilities with individuals who have a disability.
  2. Gain a fresh perspective on language and disability to effectively foster a more accessible, equitable, and inclusive workplace and demonstrate the ability to use inclusive language and articulate the importance of inclusive hiring practices.
  3. Gain a broader perspective on the importance of prioritizing people-first language in communications.

Course Contributors:

  • Rachel Mannet (They/She), SGF Facilitator and Accessibility Advisor. Rachele is a queer, Jewish, disabled, sexuality educator. Their workshops and classes focus on healthcare and disability. They are a lecturer at Dalhousie University. They also serve as the education coordinator for Venus Envy. It is an education-based sex shop and bookstore located in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Nova Scotia.

How long are micros?

  • Micro courses range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes in length
